In God's Hands Now
One week after I made this image, 4-year-old little Martha, an Amish girl, walked out from between two wagons in front of the barn in the distance to reach her house on the other side of the road. I had frequently seen little Martha, barefoot and clothed in the characteristic blue-bonnet and dress, while mountain biking past her house on my way to the state forests. Martha never made it to the house that night... she was struck and killed by 3 passer's by from out-of-state. Little Martha is in God's Hands now, leaving only 13 Amish children at the farm. The wagons were filled with the very sheaves that you see in this photograph. I suppose that I'll never look at a harvest of sheaves quite the same.
