Ice Shard Formation at Sunrise, Lake Ontario, 2022-01-26
The previous afternoon there was some open water in this location. When it dropped to -5F/ -21C overnight, the surface froze hard like glass, with no snow on top. Then lake action and wind broke the ice into clear Shards in the morning and pushed it on-shore. The mist is caused by some open water at relatively warm temperatures hitting the -5F/ -21C air. Made for magical conditions! (Shot with an iPhone 12 Pro Max.)
