The Maine coast is divided into three main areas:
  1. Southern Beaches
  2. Mid-Coast
  3. Down-East

This Gallery contains images from the Mid-Coast area which includes Bar Harbor, Castine, Stonington, Acadia NP, and Penobscot Bay, one of the world's premium sailing areas.

Mid-Coast looks like what most folks conjure up in their minds when they think of quintessential Maine. The coast is rocky and there are few, if any, sandy beaches.

The Pemaquid Light, which is my personal favorite, is in this region of Maine.

In years past a huge catamaran called "The Cat" sailed from Bar Harbor to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, which was a fast trip across the Gulf of Maine!
